In this episode of The Midlife Rebel Podcast, I'm joined by Sandra Wood for a powerful conversation about people-pleasing, burnout, boundaries, Human Design, and what it really takes to find yourself again in midlife.
Sandra shares how a breast cancer diagnosis at just 40 became the catalyst for questioning the life she'd been living and the roles she'd spent years fulfilling. What followed wasn't about becoming someone new, but about reconnecting with who she truly was beneath everyone else's expectations.
Together we explore:
• Why so many women become chronic people-pleasers
• How to set boundaries without feeling guilty
• Why high-achieving women are more prone to burnout
• The hidden cost of over-functioning
• How Human Design can help you understand your energy and decision-making
• Learning to trust yourself again in midlife
• Why it's okay to stop trying to do everything perfectly
One of my favourite moments from this conversation is Sandra's reminder that sometimes it's okay to do a "C-grade job." For those of us who constantly strive to do everything well, it was such a refreshing perspective.
She also shares a simple phrase that has stayed with me ever since:
"I have no business with that."
It's a powerful reminder that not every problem is ours to solve and not every emotion is ours to carry.
If you've been feeling exhausted, questioning your career or relationships, or sensing that the life you've been living no longer feels like your own, I hope this conversation reminds you that it's never too late to choose a different path.
If you enjoyed this episode, I'd love it if you'd subscribe to the channel, leave a comment, and share it with someone who needs to hear this conversation.
